As human beings, it is in our nature to be thankless. We yearn for money, status and all that we don’t have. We are never thankful for all the blessings bestowed upon us by God. Material things aside; is it not a blessing that most of us are able to breathe properly, see, talk, eat, walk and do all the natural human functions? If you have as much as a shadow of a doubt, ask Luka.
Luka is a 12 year old boy, suffering from Muscle Dystrophy. It is a disorder that weakens body muscles over time, making every day regular chores like walking, running and playing etc. impossible. Little Luka, like all other children, wants to run and play, but he can’t. Imagine the agony the child goes through realizing he cannot enjoy the otherwise underrated joys of life.
Slovenian photographer Matej Peljhan went out of his way to help Luka by giving him visions of what he yearns for. Using numerous props, Peljhan took a series of Luka’s images doing different things. With a white sheet as backdrop, Luka was placed in several positions on the floor with Peljhan taking shots from an elevated position. These are a series of shots showing Luka doing various things just as he wants. In one picture, he is shown climbing stairs, using cushions as stair steps. Another image shows him jumping in the air, trying a slam dunk.
Although Luka knows he didn’t actually do all these actions, the pictures will give him some measure of happiness. As for Peljhan; he has a noble heart for feeling the boy’s pain and helping him. While looking at these pictures, remember that any of us could have been a victim of Muscle Dystrophy. Be thankful for what you have and always ask God for forgiveness.
